Refugee Camps in Nepal
There are now seven Bhutanese refugee camps located in Jhapa and Morang districts of eastern Nepal. housing upto one-sixth of Bhutan's legal population. The bulk of these people arrived in these camps between 1991-1993.
Six of these camps are in Jhapa district and one is in adjoining Morang district in the south-eastern corner of Nepal. The camps are under the joint administration of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and His Majesty's Government of Nepal. The UNHCR is assisted by a host of International Relief Agencies in implementing its humanitarian assistance programme.
